Flurries of false lashes are the secret to eyes with impact. Along with glitter and blue eye shadow, false lashes have a bit of an image problem. Showgirls come to mind - snapping on thick, glittery strips before affixing their feather headdresses - but makeup artists insist that real women rely on their eye-opening promise, too. In fact, they were the finishing touch on many fall runways, where subtle sophistication and pristine polish reigned supreme.
"I put them on everyone," says makeup artist Gina Brooke, who commissioned 30 pairs of custom mink lashes from Shu Uemura for Madonna before her recent tour. "They give you an instantly sexier, more feminine look. Even a few individuals - three or four at the corner - make a huge difference." - Sarah Brown
